Does Your Password Expire During Break?

The Technology Assistance Center will close Thursday December 22nd at 6 pm. Staff members will monitor email and voicemail periodically during break. To avoid any login problems, it is suggested you check your password expiration date on MyFSU and if your password expires

New My Tech Support Site Launched

On Monday, December 12th, a new version of the My Tech Support ( will be launched.  One of the main features you will notice is we are working toward focusing the content based on a person's relationship with the University -- students will have a separate home page, and employees have another.  We also grouped information for each service, for example, phone service, by audience when appropriate.

Project Roll-out: Eyecare Advantage

This past month the ITS department rolled out a new project called Eyecare Advantage Upgrade.

Eyecare Advantage was rolled out to the Optometry department. This is a major upgrade to their older system which required a replacement of their existing server. Eyecare Advantage is an Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management solution system that was designed to keep track of patient records and accounts.

How to Open a URL in Lotus Notes Using the Default Browser

Ever click on a URL that is in a Lotus Notes email and wish that it would open using your default web browser (Internet Explorer or FireFox)? There is a setting available within Lotus Notes to change this.

Burning the Midnight Oil doing System Maintenance

We work hard to keep the Ferris servers and computer systems up to date with security updates and the latest feature releases. Maintenance is scheduled to happen in the middle of the night to minimize the affect it has on your work.

Where Is That File?

New - FerrisConnect Learn

We are excited to announce that we will be introducing the new version of Blackboard 9.1 (FerrisConnect Learn) in dozens of sections this fall.  Based on a group of faculty who piloted this version for their Spring semester sections, we had 67 early adopters take a fast-tracked training program this summer and are migrating their courses into the new version.

CPS Version 6.71 for Fall 2011

The CPS classroom clicker software will be upgraded to version 6.71 for fall semester. All faculty who plan to use CPS this fall and have not been contacted via email should contact the TAC. Let them know the classrooms where the CPS software is needed this semester. A technician will ensure the software is updated and a CPS receiver is available in the classroom.

Adobe Acrobat Professional & TechSmith Snag-It! Now Available!

We now have enough Adobe Acrobat Professional licensing available for every employee at the university.  In addition, we have enough Snag-It! licenses to place on every university owned computer. If you are interested in either of these titles, please call the Technology Assistance Center. Future employee computer replacement software loads will include both titles and eventually all classroom and lab software loads will include Snag-It! Computer Replacement Project

In late July or early August, an email from the Technology Assistance Center will be sent to select faculty, staff, and administration if a primary computer under their profile has been identified for replacement.  The email will have a link to complete verification of the current primary computer in use and to select a replacement from a list of Dell and Apple desktops and laptops.

IT Training

Since the Information Technology Assistance Program (ITAP) phased out at the end of May, new web resources have been created to assist faculty and staff with finding technology training resources to meet their needs. On-line training is available for Microsoft Products, Adobe Products, and many other Software titles. Each of these sites provide information and links to real-time training resources to assist with many technology training needs.

Lotus Notes Available for Mobile Devices

Information Technology Services is pleased to announce that Lotus Notes traveler has been fully implemented at FSU! Now iPad, iPhone, Android and Windows mobile devices can be setup to receive Lotus Notes. This ability coupled with our existing BlackBerry infrastructure will allow most devices to be connected to Lotus Notes.

Discontinuation of the ITAP Program

The Technology Assistance Center has recently adopted changes to many of its services in order to better serve students, faculty and staff.  Included in these changes is the discontinuation of the ITAP program, which provides on-site computer software training program across our campuses.

Microsoft Office 2010

ITS’ staff are in the process of testing Microsoft Office 2010 this summer. The software will be installed on the seminar and public computers on the first floor in the FLITE building and in Business 104 this month. If all goes well, Office 2010 will be included on the Presidential Replacement Computers (PCR) when they are deployed later this year.  A campus wide rollout of Office 2010 is expected sometime during the fall semester.  ZENWorks will be used to deploy Office 2010 to faculty and staff computers.

Internet Explorer 9 and FireFox 4 Not Supported

Currently, Internet Explorer 9 and FireFox 4 Internet browsers are not supported at Ferris. We recommend that you do not update to the new version on your work or personally owned computer until it has been tested thoroughly by ITS to make sure it works with FerrisConnect, MyFSU, Banner, etc.
It may appear to work, but we cannot guarantee all features will work properly.
