This past month the ITS department rolled out a new project called Eyecare Advantage Upgrade.
Eyecare Advantage was rolled out to the Optometry department. This is a major upgrade to their older system which required a replacement of their existing server. Eyecare Advantage is an Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management solution system that was designed to keep track of patient records and accounts.
This new application will allow the University Eye Center to utilize all of the enhancements and time-saving functions incorporated into the newest version of the software, version 10.0. Part 1, the server upgrade, was completed in October, and part 2, the software upgrade, is scheduled for December 19. Installation of the newest version will allow the University Eye Center to migrate to EHRs this spring.
Ferris benefits from this upgrade because it allows the Michigan College of Optometry to appropriately educate students with this cutting-edge technology in their new state-of-the-art facility. Additionally, governmental mandates require the use of EHRs by 2015. By migrating in 2012, the University Eye Center will benefit from governmental incentives.
