Now that the holiday season is upon us our minds get focused on everything extra in our lives. During this season most people are busier than they are at any other point in the year. The holiday season presents some challenges from a security standpoint that do not exist at other times of the year. Here are some quick tips on what you can do in order to make your holidays much more secure.
The first tip is to keep your holiday travel plans to yourself. Anytime you are going to leave your house empty that really means it is open for thieves to break in. So don't let everyone on social media know your travel plans before or while they are happening.
Since many of us do travel during the holidays here are some tips for travel advice. First of all beware of public networks. Always assume that whatever you access from a public whether it is your bank accounts or your email that everyone else around you can also access this information. Remember if you can see their network they can see you.
Another tip is to always make sure that you secure your devices. Most people leave there home computer unlocked but if you leave your house for an extended period of time all of your information can easily be accessed by anyone breaking into your house. This means that not only is your TV and computer stolen but anything in your bank accounts and all of your credit information. This applies even more when traveling. Instead of leaving your mobile device in your hotel room ask the front desk if you can lock it in the hotel safe. If leaving something in your vehicle make sure it is locked either in the trunk or else under a seat out of sight.
